Builders Grade-Bamboo flooring is constructed of continuous strips of bamboo, which are milled from the bamboo stalks. After the bamboo is harvested it is then cut in strips and then boiled in a processing solution to remove any sugars, impurities and/or insects. The next step is to kiln dry the strips to a 5% to 9% moisture content. The strips are then laminated and processed into blanks and milled like traditional hardwood, after they are inspected for quality. The planks are then milled once more before the finish coat is applied in a sprayed application.
The darker carbonized color is achieved by pressure cooking the bamboo. The benefit of this process is that there is never any stain used which is only on the surface of flooring, the color is present throughout the bamboo. This will enable the flooring to be repaired if necessary without unsightly color variation
The carbonized vertical bamboo, featured to the right and below, is a Caramel like color which brings out the beautiful tones of the bamboo. This product measures approximately 36" long by 3 3/4" wide and 5/8" thick and is coated with seven coats of aluminum oxide coatings to provide the finest protection available against wear and exposure to the elements.
