The quality of the laminating adhesives that are used to bond the bamboo slats is as important to the quality of the finished product as the condition or age of the raw bamboo material. At Higuera Hardwoods, we work with our own factory personnel and partners for more than a decade to develop exceptionally stable products whose performance is proven.
Higuera Hardwoods LLC currently uses two types of bonding adhesives: phenol-formaldehyde based which is United States green Building Council approved since it only off gases at extremely high temperatures that are not part of today’s normal living conditions and formaldehyde-free material. Our manufacturing adhesives emit 0.03 ppm or less of formaldehyde which is less than allowed by the U.S. OSHA and European E1 standards, and contain no added urea formaldehyde.
Because many of the most durable and usable laminating adhesives contain different types of formaldehyde, making adhesives environmentally-friendly and high-performing is an ongoing dilemma. One widely accepted benchmark is the LEED® Green Building Rating System™ IEQ Credit 4.4: Low-Emitting Materials, which we qualify for because we use no added urea formaldehyde.
Note: While it may seem logical to use formaldehyde-free adhesives to construct all of Higuera Hardwoods bamboo products, completely formaldehyde-free material are very costly and they are not proven to provide the durability and quality that we require for all of our product lines.
