FSC Bamboo Myths
There appears to be a flurry of misinformation surrounding FSC certified bamboo products which are creating gray areas for the customer.
Common myths are:
- FSC certified material is difficult to source and have available. FALSE
That is true if the sourcing company is not affiliated with FSC certified factories.
Many companies have an FSC chain of custody (COC) even though they are not
necessarily selling certified material. Do not allow them to misrepresent the material
you are seeking by selling you non approved material
*Certification is often not pursued due to the expense which is then typically added into the customer cost.*
- Higuera Hardwoods began certification in early 2008 before the environmental “green” movement became highly visible and sought after. Our business ethic is to not penalize our customers in our choice to certify our materials; we feel it is the responsible thing to do and to meet the growing demand of FSC projects “green responsible manufacturing”. Today we are still part of a small hand full of companies that have made the responsible leap of certification. This in turn commits to spot light their factories to perform in a responsible fashion. Know that Higuera Hardwoods STOCKS FSC material that is ready for shipping.
- Because a company advertises as “FSC certified material” this means all of their materials are certified. FALSE!
Do not assume that every category of material is certified. In the area of bamboo, there are still only a handful of companies with certified bamboo materials. Be specific in qualifying that their BAMBOO is certified. This is a common manipulation of the system. ALL MATERIALS RECEIVED SHOULD HAVE FSC APPROVED MARKINGS AND INVOICES OR THUS CONSIDERED NON COMPLIANT.
- All FSC certified bamboo material is Grade A quality material. FALSE.
FSC and quality do not automatically go hand in hand. Higuera Hardwoods offers only FSC certified Grade A material. Research all others.
