GENERAL
Summary
Contractor shall supply and install Higuera Hardwoods unfinished bamboo veneer as shown as specified.
Submittals
Samples: 8” X 8” sized sample(s) of bamboo veneers submitted for review. As with all natural products, color and grain will vary from sheet to sheet.
Installer Qualifications: Company specializing of cloth-backed veneer finished work.
Delivery, Storage and Handling
sheets should be stored horizontally, back-to-back, face-to-face, with the top sheet turned face down and a sheet board placed on top to protect the material from possible damage and reduce the chance of warping of the top veneer sheets. The material should always be protected from light, heat, and moisture and should never be stored in contact with the floor or an outside wall. Optimum conditions for storage are approximately 70°F and 40% to 65% relative humidity.
Project/Site Conditions
With all bamboo products, Higuera Hardwoods reacts to ambient conditions. The Bamboo Veneer surfacing and the backing to which it is applied may both gain moisture and expand under high relative humidity conditions, it might also lose moisture and shrink under dry relative humidity conditions. Allows acclimate the sheets to the ambient relative conditions of the installation site for at least 7 days. Optimum conditions are approximately 70 degrees and at a relative humidity of 40%
to 65%. Provisions should be made for the circulation of air around the veneers during acclimation.
Bonding Substrates
Recommended bonding substrates materials are 45lb. density particleboard, medium-density fiberboard (MDF), and high-density fiberboard (HDF). All the substrates being used should be smooth, clean, free of oil and/or grease, and always have a uniform in thickness. Never use drywall (gypsum), plaster, concrete, solid lumber and/or underlayment’s.
Glues/Adhesives
The strength of the bond between veneer and the substrate will always determine the degree of the load that may be transmitted to the backing of the veneer. For glues we recommend a PVAc (white glue), urea and resorcinol adhesives do to how the loads are distributed by these types of glues which will add a greater even stress to the backing, making the assembly more crack-resistant.
Backing Sheets
Panel assemblies should be laminated with a suitable balancing sheet to minimize potential failures.
Inspection
All surfaces shall be inspected prior to lamination to ensure they are stable, clean and free of defects.
Preparation
Precondition the substrate and Veneers to 70°F and 40% to 65% relative humidity for a minimum of 7days prior to Installation.
Installation
Material, equipment, and workmanship should conform to the industry standard practices
Sealing Edges
All exposed edges are to be sealed in order to prevent moisture absorption.
